China leads in table tennis Waldner Cup
On Dec 14, 2024, a special table tennis competition (比赛) started in Oslo, Norway (挪威). In the competition, there were only two teams: Team Asia (亚洲) and Team World. This is the Waldner Cup.
Jan-Ove Waldner, a famous retired (退役的) table tennis player from Sweden (瑞典), started the competition. It brings together table tennis players from around the world to take on (与……较量) the best players from Asia. In this first-ever Waldner Cup in Norway, China’s Ma Long was the captain (队长) of Team Asia. The team also had players from South Korea, Kazakhstan, and India. Led by (由……带队) Waldner, Team World had players from countries such as Sweden and Germany. Together, they played 16 matches over two days. Team Asia was the winner.
The Waldner Cup has no prize money. It lets players from different countries and regions work together and enjoy the fun of table tennis. In a doubles match (双打), Ma teamed up with South Korean player Lim Jong-hoon. Lim said that it was an honor (荣幸) to play with Ma. It showed that sports can bring people together, noted the Global Times.
